DNA repair gets into the RNA world: the MGM seminar at Duke

Dr. Li Lan gave a special seminar to the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology at Duke on 30 August 2022. The talk was called DNA repair gets into the RNA world. She spoke from Harvard Medical School, one year before the lab moved to Duke.

The talk showed how human cells hold the genome stable against oxidative stress and replication stress. It set out the part that RNA, RNA modifications and R-loop processing take in the repair of damaged DNA, and how a repair route that starts from mRNA protects the transcribed parts of the genome.

She also spoke about the protection of telomeres in cancer cells, and about the openings that these mechanisms give to cancer therapy.
